The Poodlecare

The poodle does not molt (there will be no problems of dog hair throughout your home). Its coat needs to be shortened and trimmed at least once every two or three months. Today we can find dog groomed that are real artists and can transform these dogs in real work of art. This may seem quite costly, but if your poodle is not destined for shows, you can reduce the visits to dog groomers by looking after its coat with great patience and goodwill. One thing is however certain: if the coat is neglected, the poodle hair tends to tangle and matt, making it necessary to shave it to the skin. Here below I give you some little advice.:

  1. You need to keep your poodle free from parasites on the skin and in the body (this will keep its coat healthy and shiny).
  2. From puppy age it is important to get your poodle used to be brushed and to stay still while you clean its ears, eyes and teeth; this will get it used to long grooming sessions when adult.
  3. You only need to brush your poodle's coat for 5 minutes every day in order to avoid the formation of unpleasant knots.
  4. The poodle does not have undercoat and this allows it to be washed more often than other breeds. Do not allow dirt to give itches and stain its coat.
  5. After a bath you need to towel dry it very carefully before using an hairdryer and while drying you need to brush it to fluff its coat.
  6. It is important to keep its ears quite clean, remove the hair that nests in the outside areas of his ears and after running in fields check that the long ears have not collected thorns or others.
  7. The eyes need to be cleaned once a week.
  8. A correct diet will keep your poodle in splendid form. I personally advise the use of dry food; if you prefer 'wet food' I will recommend cleaning his face after the meal to prevent food pieces staining his hair or even better to keep the face well trimmed.

The most important thing to keep always in mind is that the poodle is a very sensitive dog and therefore needs a lot of affection that will be fully repaid.

Grooming

Grooming summarizes all the daily operations needed to maintain a poodle in excellent aesthetic and hygienic conditions (bathing, pedicure, cleaning of eyes, teeth's, ears and brushing).

It is very important to get your puppy used to grooming very early on (even with the simulation of some actions) in order to get it used to being handled by expert hands and to gain its confidence with the equipment that will become part of the daily adult life.

It should cooperate by standing still, as I think it is the most important part of a good trim.
