DEPENDS, On how you want to look at the dog ??!!!!!
Regarding the character there are many differences in the Poodles, Its not true that the female generaly is more affectionate or more Obedient meanwhile the Male is more indipendent and its harder to Controll. Each Subject is Unique!!!!
The real difference is in the physiology.
The FEMALE periodically goe on Heat ( Intervalls vari from 5 Months to a Year)

1. Most Females Have uncontrolled blood loss. This might cause some irritation to the owner for the  Poodles living in the house. There are some solutions like Nappies for dogs or Hygenic Underwhere that can be easily acquired in Supermarket or Pet Stores so that won’t let the dog mess around the house.
2. If She falls pregneant there could be a problem that the unwanted puppies need to be Given Away or old... but if the litter is desired or not  its allways an emotional event
3. When the Female is on Heat you cannot do Anything: Exebitions,Coarses or any other activities you want to do with the dog. In Our case we can pick them up and be taken Outside just a simple walk or to do their physiological activity,if you meet during the walk Male dogs this will complicate the situation.
   
   THE MALE  Doesn’t go on Heat and in Consequence it doesn’t have the above mentioned disadvantages. But....Always been available to Mate its like been in “permanent” on heat. In particular the dogs that have mated before,they will be available to run away just for the occasion sometimes because they can smell that the Female is on Heat from a distance (some dogs can smell the Female on Heat from Kilometers away) This Puts you Male at risk its a typical scenario of a Dog been runover by a  Car,Loss of Dog if he doesnt find how to get back home and that the owner of the female’s will probably shoot you and a million other possibilities.Another disadvantage respect to the Female( the Female marks the territory only when she’s on Heat) the Male is permanatly Marking his territory. You can teach your Dog to dirty in certain Places in the house and not to in Undesirable places(as per the Female) but when they reach a garden,parck,on the road etc... where there are different smells that you Male detects they will Mark everywhere because of the Odors around This is very difficult to educate not to dirty when you are Outside the House.
   Most of the Problems that (Male & Female) have can be solved by Sterilizing your Dogs The Female doesn’t do on Heat anymore. The Consequence on her Character and the Health of the dog are all positive, it prevents Aggression and the Female is less irritable which some Female’s display during their pregnancy, It Eliminates Hysterical Pregnancies and also reduces Breast Tumors. Even if its an Operation Sterilization on the Male is simpler and costs less, this doesn’t have side effects as per the Female. It prevents prostrate Cancer reduces tendencies to become a vagabond in search for a partner it avoid conflicts with other Male’s.  The Male that has been sterilized cannot participate in Beauty Expeditions. Last Consideration there are no beauty differences between Male and Female Poodles
   In Other Breeds the Male is Taller and Heavier but there isn’t correlation between Beauty and Impressiveness
   
   In Other Breeds, which is mainly the elegant, the Quality the Female results the Prettier of the Two.
